Images From A Small World: Israel / West Bank / Jordan
This body of work is based on travel in Israel, Palestine, and Jordan, three nations, or almost nations that share a very small corner of the world. These images were captured within a radius of 50 miles.
Before I traveled there in 2011 I was only abstractly aware of the tensions between them. Seeing the evident prosperity of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Amman and the desolate, neglected character of the border towns of the West Bank, was a powerful experience, as was that of the prominent military and polic presence in Israel.
At the same time I was impressed by the evident will of the peoples to make the most of their lives under trying circumstances. These images provide a sample of what was for me a profound experience.
