Graphite and Charcoal
For several years, I have been experimenting with various media to create an ethereal, otherworldly space that expresses my ideas about human mortality and captures fleeting moments of beauty.
In the last two years I have focused on graphite mixed with mineral spirits which I dripped, rubbed and manipulated on the surface of Arches paper. Depending on the proportion of graphite powder in my mixture, the shades that I produced ranged from light gray to black, and these variations intrigued me greatly. Slight changes in the density of graphite powder create three-dimensional depths that move from light to dark on a two dimensional surface. In these depths, I seek to convey a sense of life’s fragile essence.
